Celebrating 600 Posts with a 12 by 12 Challenge

12 Mar

I took on the challenge. As a chocoholic I couldn’t possibly resist.

Although the title itself made me a little hesitant. I hate titles that tell me I need to do something. 10 steps you need to jumpstart your career. 10 exercises you need for flatter abs. 10 things your relationship needs right now. 10 celebrities you need to watch for. I don’t need to do anything. You don’t know me. So most of the time I don’t pay attention to stuff like this.

But something caught my eye.

I looked passed the bossy need in the title and just focused on the key words: Life-Changing Chocolate Cakes.

Yeah if you say something like that to someone like me, you better have the Bobby Flay-Tyler Florence-Food Network chops to back it up or we’re gonna have problems.

So I looked at the pictures, accompanying this article.

Dude.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude.

Don’t know if they’d be life-changing but I could guarantee they’d fix a this-sucks-bottom-less-pit kind of day in a second.

Twelve.

Twelve ultra chocolatey cakes claiming to possess the supernatural power to change your state.

The pictures were pretty convincing, so I told myself I was up for the challenge. After looking at the pictures, my son said he would help too. Official test taster. My daughter would be the egg cracker and flour pourer. So seeing how I was fully staffed I felt I was properly prepared to take on the challenge. Twelve cakes in twelve weeks.

I figured this week would be the perfect time to launch this challenge, seeing how I wrote my 600th post and all. I figured it was time to celebrate.

Chocolate is always a great celebratory treat.

And Double Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Buttercream sounded like the way to go.

What did I start with ... only the best ingredient

I was able to turn the raspberries into this swiss meringue buttercream filling. I love chocolate. I really do, but this was definitely the best part of the cake.

Made sure I spread it over every crack and crevasse.

Incidentally I have to thank my good friend Gisela for sending me these cake recipes.

Don’t you love it, when a friend gets you.  Really gets you.

If you want to try this recipe out here it is.

600 ! That’s impressive! I’m not a chocolate person at all, but I’ll show the post to my wife, she’ll get it.

Dude, thanks! I couldn’t believe it when I saw 599 … I thought I need to do something big. So chocolate had to be involved. I bet your wife agreed with me when you showed her the pic. 🙂

    • The Guat March 20, 2014 at 1:25 AM #

Thanks chica! I’m sure you know what it tastes like now. 🙂 high-five sister! Although 600 cakes may be a stretch though. Making this cake was kind of crazy as you know…I didn’t have a paddle attachment. 🙂 I used pure Guat muscle

YUM! That cake sounds suitably decadent… chocolate and raspberry, what’s not to like? Congrats on the 600 posts. Quite a milestone!

    • The Guat March 20, 2014 at 1:27 AM #

Thanks. I felt pretty awesome when I hit the publish button. And yes that cake was totally awesome. Oh! I ate half of it. Crazy. Needed to lace up my running shoes that week 🙂

Great stuff, TG!! That cake looks like a great way to celebrate. That raspberry butter cream filling looks to die for. I would have to try a few spoonfuls, just to make sure it tasted okay, before I spread it on the cake. 😆

    • The Guat March 20, 2014 at 1:28 AM #

Oh my God that filling was amazing. I couldn’t believe I made it. I didn’t have any master baker equipment but I managed to create some awesomeness for sure. Plenty of taste testing … definitely

    • The Guat March 27, 2014 at 12:32 AM #

    • The Guat March 20, 2014 at 1:30 AM #

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuude thanks! It felt pretty cool to hit the publish button on that one. That cake was definitely something awesome. Something worth the 600 posts.

That cake looks delicious Guat! It looks like you and your crew did an outstanding job. But you omitted a very important point: what did the official test taster (or is it taste tester) think?

And eleven more cakes to go! When do you climb up those 1,400 steps like a house on fire? That’s one way to burn off twelve weeks of cake (hm, sounds like that could be a name of a film by Guat Productions).

    • The Guat March 20, 2014 at 1:36 AM #

Yup taste tester for sure. 🙂 There were high-fives all around, especially after conquering the directions to make that raspberry filling. Duuuuude. But definitely well worth it. Eleven more cakes to go. I’m on a chocolate mission 🙂 Cake no, 2 was this week although it was cupcakes so it was a little bit easier 🙂 And thank God I have those 1,400 steps to go … that will definitely help me burn off the tons of butter and chocolate I use.

      Ha! Guat Productions! Awesome.

Hey sorry I’ve been MIA definitely trying to catch up on my reading will stop by to check out your Beatles Browsing story and more 🙂

      • lameadventures March 20, 2014 at 5:15 AM #

Ha, my Beatles post! I’ve published a few more since and the current one’s been Freshly Pressed. It’s been busy over at Lame Adventures, Guat.

        • The Guat March 25, 2014 at 8:38 AM #

Holy Crap! Freshly Pressed! That’s awesome! You totally deserve it and I’m very happy for you You so deserved to be Freshly Pressed a long time ago. I’m lame that I haven’t caught up with your adventures. I started reading the Beatles and then got interrupted by mini disasters and regular life but I’m on it! Slowly but surely … I’m on it.

          • lameadventures March 25, 2014 at 8:49 AM #

You’ll make it over when you can. Don’t sweat it buddy. I LOVED your Legoland post.

  10. TBM March 14, 2014 at 3:24 AM #

Congrats on the 600 posts and what a way to celebrate! yes, your friend gets you. I love that all of you helped make this. Of course you may kick me out of the kitchen since I tend to dip my finger in the batter for a taste or two.

    • The Guat March 20, 2014 at 1:38 AM #

Thanks! 600 was definitely something I was proud of. I think I high-fived myself 🙂 There was plenty of chocolate to go around. I love that my friend sent it to me. Very cool thing. And yes… my kids love baking, flour pourer professionals and egg cracking specialists 🙂 But they like the taste testing the most 🙂
