Weekly Photo Challenge: Near and Far

11 Sep

Tikal, Guatemala

Near and Far.

After the crazy turbulent mini plane ride where you  almost died, you thank God when you land on the jungle floor and the mosquito attacks you.

You enter the plaza and see it. It’s majestic.

You can’t believe your people built this, and it takes you ages to build something with Legos.

You walk to the base. It’s there. You’re close. You’re near.

And then you look at the steps. You look at the top.

It’s 125 feet tall.

Far.

You take a breath, a bottle of water, and are thankful that you wore deodorant.

Near and Far.

I always have deodorant with me, just in case. Cool shot!

Thanks. That’s me in the picture way up on top, wearing blue and celebrating like Rocky Balboa with my hands in the air.

Isn’t that awesome? The old architecture still stands, even though it was built with “primitive” materials. I’d love to go there one day.

It is a truly awesome moment. Rich in history and culture. Definitely a Bucket List item 🙂

That was quite a pilgrimage, TG. Hubby would have been up there with you. I’d have stayed at the bottom to take the pic. 🙂

It was one killer quad workout that’s for sure, then if you can believe it I went off to climb the other temple which was taller.

That place looks dope! Man, miss a step and it’s bounce all the way down, a la Homer Simpson (D’oh!). That would be so cool to see.

Ha! I was so hoping that my clumsy self would not have a Doh! moment all day. Considering I did more temple climbing there was high percentage. But I remained Rocky Balboa victorious 🙂

Hey, where’s the bannister? I suffered vertigo just looking at that picture. Gulp.

Those stairs must be a workout! 🙂

A monstrous workout. My quads were burning, but then I went up another temple like ten minutes later. It was my workout for the entire vacation 🙂

Wow! 125 feet of amazing architectural wonder. I agree, I can’t begin to imagine how they did it then when I can’t even finish a Lego set without acting crazy afterwards. Impressive photo and yes, exciting adventure.
