I’m Gonna Need a Strong Dose of This

laughquote

Considering that I am currently under the influence of DayQuil and NyQuil, I still feel pretty crappy.

Everybody knows the flu blues. Your head hurts, like Wild E. Coyote smashed it with an anvil. Your chest hurts like if you did 100 push-ups. Your eyeballs hurt, like if you had glaucoma. Your body aches like if you’re a senior citizen, but you’re only in your late 30s. I mean even your hair hurts and being a mom, just finishing a 14-hour shift with two kids I got no blanket, no soup, or no cup of tea waiting for me. Just a sink full of dishes that my crazy OCD mind will just have to let go of. They’ll have to wait until tomorrow just like everything on the to-do list.

Tonight … tonight I’m gonna need a dose of laughter and sleep. A strong one.

May you get off the hard stuff and feel well soon!

Thanks! It was a rough weekend. Definitely trying to turn the corner today 🙂

I wish you a long sleep and a good laugh as soon as you wake up….
    Recover soon !

Thanks. I was out of commission the entire weekend. It’s tough when you’re sick and then you have to take care of your kids who are also sick. Oh! Rough weekend, but hoping for a better week.

Night, night. Catch you when you get back. Feel better!

Thanks! It was a rough weekend. No bike rides. No running. No outdoor anything. Just a lot of coughing and fever, from me and one of my kids. But hoping for a better one today. Thanks for the good vibes. 🙂

I can’t help you with the pile of dishes, brew you tea, make you soup or give you a blanket, but maybe you’ll find this missive a friend recently shared with me amusing:

This information is for Catholics only. It must not be divulged to non-Catholics. The less they know about our rituals and top secret code words, the better off they are.

AMEN: The only part of a prayer that everyone knows.

BULLETIN: Your receipt for attending Mass.

CHOIR: A group of people whose singing allows the rest of the Parish to lip-sync.

HOLY WATER: A liquid whose chemical formula is H2OLY. Created by boiling the HELL out of it.

HYMN: A song of praise usually sung in a key three octaves higher than that of the congregation’s range.

RECESSIONAL HYMN: The last song at Mass often sung a little more quietly, since most of the people have already left.

    INCENSE: Holy Smoke!

JESUITS: An order of priests known for their ability to find colleges with good basketball teams.

    JONAH: The original ‘Jaws’ story.

JUSTICE: When kids have kids of their own.

KYRIE ELEISON: The only Greek words that most Catholics can recognize besides gyros and baklava. (for you non-Catholics it means Lord have mercy)

MAGI: The most famous trio to attend a baby shower.

MANGER: Where Mary gave birth to Jesus because Joseph wasn’t covered by an HMO. (The Bible’s way of showing us that holiday travel has always been rough.)

PEW: A medieval torture device still found in Catholic churches.

PROCESSION: The ceremonial formation at the beginning of Mass consisting of altar servers, the celebrant, and late parishioners looking for seats.

RECESSIONAL: The ceremonial procession at the conclusion of Mass led by parishioners trying to beat the crowd to the parking lot.

RELICS: People who have been going to Mass for so long, they actually know when to sit, kneel, and stand.

TEN COMMANDMENTS: The most important Top Ten list not given by David Letterman.

USHERS: The only people in the parish who don’t know the seating capacity of a pew.

Little known facts about the Catholic Church in Las Vegas :

There are more churches in Las Vegas than casinos. During Sunday services at the offertory, some worshippers contribute casino chips as opposed to cash.. Some are sharing their winnings – some are hoping to win. Since they get chips from so many different casinos, and they are worth money, the Catholic churches are required to send all the chips into the diocese for sorting. Once sorted into the respective casino chips, one junior priest takes the chips and makes the rounds to the casinos turning chips into cash. And he, of course, is known as The Chip Monk.

    Get well soon Guat!

The Chip Monk HA! OH MY GOD. Thank you so much for the laugh. I most definitely needed it and really appreciated the message. I was feeling a little less death-like today and knew if I checked out your message I’d get a much-needed laugh. Thanks. It was a rough weekend being sick and then taking care of one of my kids who’s also sick totally sucks. The days are so-so, the nights duuuuuuuuuuuuuude. But visits from you with the Catholic Glossary totally rock. Ahhhhh thanks bud with humor like that I’ll be all good soon. 🙂

Guat- Hope you’re feeling better today. Long sleeps and big laughs ARE indeed the best medicine for what’s ailing you. I KNOW I’m sick when I take Nyquil, because I feel like Mike Tyson just used my head for his own personal emery board when I take it. And the dreams? Stranger than fiction.

    • The Guat February 12, 2013 at 11:35 AM #

Thanks my friend. I’ve been trying to catch some laughs and get rest. The rest part has been tough though seeing how one of my kids is also sick and unfortunately they don’t make a kid’s NyQuil so even though I took it, I was still up in the middle of the night. No time for dreaming. I’m hoping today is much better, because I could definitely use the rest. 🙂 And I didn’t forget about my awesome award I’ll be posting about this week. 🙂

PS- I’m sorry for ‘liking’ this post. Really….it felt strange to press the like button for this one….

    • The Guat February 12, 2013 at 11:37 AM #

No worries. A few peeps liked it, I think it was the quote everyone liked, and not so much my crappy state of mind, but it’s all good. A like is always a good thing 🙂

hello, hope you are recovering now, Indeed , sleep is the best medicine next to laughter. I will share you what I usually do when I get sick, I am single and lives alone. So there is no one who will embrace me when I get back home from work with 36 hour shift. Some more, people laugh when I tell them ” I am sick ” as it’s a joke that a doctor can get sick. So before I sleep, I pray for myself, I imagine myself envelope in so much love and pray for the rapid healing. I pray this way even for the good sleep. It works for me.

    • The Guat February 19, 2013 at 2:08 PM #

I guess if I heard a doctor was sick it would be kind of funny. It’s kind of like a mechanic whose car isn’t working. 🙂 But when you’re sick it’s a total relief when someone helps you out. It sucks getting soup for yourself, but once I’m slurping it … it’s all good. Thanks for stopping by, I’m feeling better now.

  9. TBM February 12, 2013 at 9:26 AM #

I hope you feel better soon. Is it humanly possible to do 100 push-ups. I’d settle for 10

    • The Guat February 12, 2013 at 11:10 AM #

Duuuuude. I haven’t been sick like this in a long time. I’m going on day five of feeling crappy. I’m hurting, but hoping to turn a corner. I think I feel a little less crappy today. And I have to confess that after jumpstarting our book and getting all jazzed up about it, these last five days have been no reading days, so now I’m the one who’s behind. 🙂

      • TBM February 12, 2013 at 12:40 PM #

Don’t worry about the book. Drink lots of water and get well. And let’s hope you feel less crappy again tomorrow and then the next day.
