You work hard all day.
You haven’t had time to sit down and relax. You haven’t had time to sit down period.
You’ve been on the go, non-stop since 6:43 a.m.
Your back aches, your head hurts, and your knees are tired.
You spent fourteen hours with a four-year old and a one year old.
You notice another gray hair.
Your mom shift is finally over.
You don’t want to see another sandbox, Lego block, monster truck, Hot Wheels, bulldozer, Little People doll, or Wonder Pets figurine the rest of the night.
You walk downstairs …and see it.
Ummmmmmm. No. Hell no.
You turn around looking for it.
And there it is … hanging out by the television.
The all-powerful, the almighty … The remote control.
It’s mine.
It’s Tuesday night.
It’s Sons of Anarchy night.
It’s mine.
Mine.

I am hoping that it wasn’t there for your taking because the batteries were dead.
Oh! Burn. I hate it when that happens. But no … this time it was there for the taking, because who really needs to be watching golf when you can be watching drama, right?
Great “Story”!…So True
Yeah all couples or families tend to relate. The remote … it’s a powerful thing. Thanks for stopping by
Love it! It’s like reading my thoughts only I watched Game of Thrones, Merlin, and other SyFy. Yes, we need days to call all “mine.” Life can beat us up. Working almost non-stop, responsibilities, problems, bills , emotional baggages of others around us(like at the work place…hmmm?) can drain our happy self. Thus “mine” times…is a must! Have a great T.V. time!
Yeah … TV is definitely part of “me” time. I knew you would understand. Life definitely beats me up and nothing better than watching a little humor or little drama to take me away. So when I see that remote control at the end of the day yeah … it is mine.
it is yours yours all yours
so many remotes, so many arguments
love this poem
are you sure my husband did not write part of this (certainly not the parts about the taking care of everyone and everything at home)
HA! You crack me up. Yeah husbands are like that sometimes. No I wrote this all myself. I’m a total TV hog. There’s no room for watching golf here, especially if anything is on FX, USA, or AMC. Drama rules in this house.
Your writing style and subject matter puts me right there with you as you explain your state of mind. I find that refreshing, true reality living instead of some phony TV show. People don’t normally run obstacle courses with pads & protective head gear. I’m glad I’ve discovered your blog and have marked it for future visits. Thanks for sharing. – Bob
Thanks for the kind words. Hope you enjoy your visits.
Hubby has the remote, and I have the volume control.
That’s a good compromise, but when it comes to Sons of Anarchy, Mad Men, basically anything on AMC or FX I don’t really compromise.
Oh so many fights arise from whom has control of the controller!
It’s a battle, sometimes like one of those cage matches. It’s a good thing I’m almost a black belt.
My daughter thought that all she had to do was to set the tv to the Cartoon Network and hide the remote in a “good” place…
Ha! I love it! What a smart girl. She’s way ahead of her time.
